Blessed

I think that after having no running water or electricity, except for the minimal use of a generator on a stormy day has made me realize how blessed we are. We take so much for granted, like a simple shower, and only realize how lucky we are when we are living like those who have nothing.  It's kind of like that song "Let Her Go," where it says in a verse, "you only miss the sun when it starts to snow." Well, you also miss the sun when it starts to storm. When chaos takes over and storms rage, you wish you didn't take the sun for granted. You wish that the fog could lift, that the thunder and lighting could cease, and that the sun would never fade. Then when the sun is out for so long you wish that it would just disappear. We live in a tired generation of people who are easily distracted. People who can't look at something for too long before getting tired or bored. I believe it's time to realize that everything is precious, and could dissipate in a moment's notice. That it only takes a second, or a glance away from something and it could disappear forever. Some people complain about the little money they have, how they need new shoes, are tired of their old clothing, or need a manicure, but I've realized how truly blessed I am despite my wants, I have what I need. I have my precious, sweet heavenly father, I have love from him and my family, I have my health, and I have dreams. So today appreciate the little things in life, because almost always they are the things that change people, make a difference, and make life worth living.
